Car with N.J. license plate sought in shooting of state trooper in N.Y.

A car with a New Jersey license plate is being sought in the shooting Wednesday of a state trooper on Long Island, according to police.
The shooting occurred about 11:45 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway in the area of Exit 17 in Hempstead, according to New York State Police Major Stephen J. Udice.
“The trooper was wounded and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital and the investigation is ongoing,” Udice said in a statement posted to X early Thursday.
Police are seeking a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, with temporary tag NJ 997636T, the statement said.
The trooper was shot during an exchange of gunfire with the man in parkway’s westbound lanes, according to abc7ny.com A fellow trooper provided aid before the trooper was rushed to the hospital, according to the report.
The incident led to the closure early Thursday of the Southern State Parkway in the area of Exit 18 West, according to state police.
